SUMMARY OF MONITORING AND EVALUATION ACTIVITIES OF IUPHHK-HA PT. GUNUNG RAYA UTAMA TIMBER INDUSTRIES IN 2020

Monitoring of IUPHHKHA- PT. Gunung Raya Utama Timber Industries activities is carried out every year to determine the realization of activities achieved based on company targets. The summary of the realization of activities in 2020 is as described below.


A. PLANNING

1. IUPHHK Area Boundaries

The company has made efforts to carry out demarcation of the outer boundary of the IUPHHK-HA area of PT. Gunung Raya Utama Timber Industries. However, in the 2020 target was not realized because there were still obstacles in the related agencies.

2. Installation of Protected Area Boundary Signs

The protected area in the area of PT. GRUTI consists of: Protected Forest Buffer Zone, Nature Reserve Forest, River Border, Coastal Border, KPPN and KPSL. The planned installation of protected area boundaries in 2020 is 33,061 km from the target of 310.745 km. The remaining unrealized targets are planned to be implemented next year.

3. Work Area Arrangement (PAK)

The realization of PAK activities until December 2020 in the 2021 Cutting Block Plan has not been implemented because of the RKUPHHK-HA Period II 2021 to 2021. 2030 just passed December 30, 2020.

4. Pre-Logging Inventory (ITSP)

The realization of ITSP activities until December 2020 in the 2021 Cutting Block Plan has not been implemented due to the RKUPHHK-HA Period II 2021 to 2021. 2030 just passed December 30, 2020.

B. PRODUCTION

The realization of production in 2020 was 39,632 M3 with the dominant wood species being Keruing (88%) and other commercial types such as Meranti, Kempas, Jelutung and other mixed jungle. This year's realization is still far below the target of 123,044.03 M3. In addition to natural factors, the condition of the equipment also becomes less than the maximum wood production that can be produced. In 2021, the company plans to renovate its heavy equipment to increase its production target.

C. FOREST DEVELOPMENT

1. Procurement of Seeds The realization of seed procurement in the 2020 RKT is 182,990 stems. The types of seeds are cultivated from local superior types such as Keruing, Meranti, Damar Laut, etc. This year there was no fruiting season for these superior trees, so the seeds came from natural saplings or plucked. Because the seeds come from grafts, the percentage of growth is not optimal and needs to be increased.

2. Enrichment

The enrichment was carried out in the former RKT 2017 logging block. The realization of this year's enrichment was 280.70 Ha with Keruing, Meranti and other local superior species.


3. Planting Vacant Land/Non-productive

Area Realization of planting vacant land/non-productive area of 42.40 Ha from the target of 466 Ha. This target was not achieved because the planting at the location of the Tele II Unit could not be carried out due to the absence of an agreement with the local community.

4. Planting Left and Right Wood Transport Road

Planting on the left and right of the road is carried out in areas that are available or less forest rejuvenation. The realization of planting Left and Right Road this year is 21.20 hectares in accordance with the target.

5. Enrichment Plant Maintenance

Maintenance of enrichment plants in the form of embroidery, cleaning or freeing of nuisance plants is carried out on trees resulting from planting/enrichment. Plant maintenance realization this year is 85.30 Ha from the target of 88.68 Ha.

6. Plant Maintenance in Vacant Land Areas

Maintenance of plants in vacant land areas in the form of embroidery, cleaning or pendangiran is carried out on trees that have been planted in vacant land areas. The realization of plant maintenance this year is 98.30 Ha from the target of 111.82 Ha.

7. Maintenance of Plants on the Left and Right of the Wooden Transport Road

Maintenance of plants on the left and right of the timber transport road in the form of embroidery, cleaning or sweeping is carried out on the planted trees on the left and right of the timber transport road. The realization of plant maintenance this year is 87.39 hectares of the target of 100 hectares.

8. Liberation of Fostered Trees

Liberation of the built trees from nuisance plants such as lianas is necessary for maximum tree growth. The realization of this year's Assisted Tree Liberation activities covers an area of 2,404 Ha from the target of 2,636 Ha.

D. FOREST PROTECTION AND SECURITY

Forest protection and security activities include: Control of Forest and Land Fires, Prevention / Prevention of Illegal Logging / Theft, Cultivation, Protection of Flora and Fauna / Germplasm and Protection of Soil and Water Conservation.


E. STAFF OF FORESTRY TECHNICAL AND NON-TECHNICAL

The use of technical personnel in forest management is absolutely necessary. There are currently, the technical staff at PT. GRUTI consists of: Five people from Forestry graduates, three people GANISPHPL-CANHUT, two people GANISPHPL KURPET, one people GANISPHPL BINHUT, one people GANISPHPL NENHUT, Eight  people GANISPHPL PKB. The company continues to strive to improve the quality of human resources by always involving employees to participate in education and training according to company needs.

F. EQUIPMENT

The forest concession equipment used includes: Logging Truck 13 units, Tractor 18 units, Log Loader 6 units, Chainsaw 25 units, Motor Grader 3 units, Excavator 4 units, Dump Truck 5 units, Speed Boat 1 unit, Long Boat 1 unit, Jeep 6 Units and Dirt Bike 7 Units.

Because some of the logging tools used today are too old. so this year it will be planned to upgrade the equipment to increase work efficiency and productivity.

G. UTILIZATION OF WOOD

Timber harvested from the area of PT. GRUTI is mostly to supply group industry and some are sold between islands/provinces/free trade.

H. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

The realization of this year's R&D includes: Growth of Residual Stand Increment (PUP), Research on Stand Damage Levels and Research on Logging Efficiency (Fe).

I. MANAGEMENT AND MONITORING OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS

The realization of environmental impact management and monitoring this year is carried out in the following areas: River Borders, Protected Forest and Coastal Buffer Zones, Germplasm Conservation Areas, Wildlife Protection Areas, Permanent Sampling Areas, Seed Gardens Areas, Transport Roads, Base Camps/TPKs /TPn. In addition, management efforts are also to prevent and overcome soil erosion, prevent damage to vegetation, prevent damage to wildlife habitat as well as social, economic and cultural aspects.


J. SOCIAL MANAGEMENT

As a form of the company's concern for the village community around its work area, various efforts have been carried out such as: Utilization of Local Workers, Village Cubic Assistance, Lagan Compensation, Counseling and Other Assistance.

In addition to the activities contained in the 2020 RKT document, the company also carries out other activities in order to improve the performance of sustainable forest management, both in terms of social and ecological aspects.
